Managing Work Related Stress

The aim of this course is to address the impact of workplace stress as part of the legal duty of care initiative. It aims to prepare you for how you can recognise workplace stress symptoms, how to manage stress, and how to provide relevant support to colleagues.

This course is aimed at individual employees, line managers, personnel managers and HR managers. Although it can be beneficial to group all HR managers together, for example, the course works well with different people from different parts of the same company so that you can learn from each others experiences.

The course is supported by handout materials and there is opportunity for some practical work. The course is taught by an experienced psychotherapist specialising in stress management and the effects of traumatic stress.

A typical half day course (four hours) aims to equip you with the following skills:

  • Understanding workplace stress
  • Multiple roles and multi-tasking
  • Duty of care and stress management
  • Identifying tipping points
  • Ripple effect of stress
  • Recognising physical and, mental and emotional warning signs
  • Recognising burn-out signals
  • Defusing stress techniques
  • F.I.N.E. guidelines (listening skills)

At the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Assess the causes of stress
  • Identify symptoms of stress and panic
  • Identify how stress accumulates
  • Consider your own stress levels
  • Use stress defusing techniques
  • Use F.I.N.E. listening skills to help others

Courses are usually half day (four hours) or full day (eight hours). The number of participants depends on their abilities and requirements.
